I spent three years at Habitat for Humanity of Greater LA completely revamping their entire social media and digital output. I wanted to help a community organization coming out of the pandemic - and the part of that work I was proudest of was the many photo albums I took of their full scope of work. From large fundraiser events to community outreach meetings and regular construction days, and from staff and interested homeowners to volunteers and senators, I captured it all. I often aimed to emphasize the fun, the work, and the genuine kindness of those who came onto the build sites: I wanted it to feel like each person was their own story of a hero making an impact.
I made 50+ photo albums, each with roughly 50-100 final edited images (3,500+ total edited selects!). That was enough to stock them with enough photos of their work, so that they wouldn't have to use the same ten or so generic images for all their social, marketing and promotional materials. Several of my photos were featured on the Habitat for Humanity International social media channels as well. I also trained staff and volunteers on how to take good pictures to maximize output, and changed the view of the company towards the value of capturing content.
It was an enjoyable challenge to focus on dealing with harsh daylight conditions and working with abnormal shadows and angles on the construction sites, and by the end I felt like the construction site was my own photo playground. Below are some of my favorite shots!
